A 10 GB eSIM is not automatically the right choice for every holiday. Seven days of messaging and offline maps can use less data than one day of video streaming. Start with your own mobile-data usage, then choose a package that covers both the estimated total and the whole trip.
Start with your actual mobile-data usage
Before travelling, check a few representative days of cellular usage. Separate mobile data from Wi-Fi: your home internet total is not a useful starting point. If you normally rely on office Wi-Fi, allow for more mobile data while sightseeing.
On iPhone, open Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data), inspect app usage and check when the statistics were reset. Reset them at the start of your measurement if needed. With Dual SIM, check the selected data line. See Apple’s instructions for cellular data statistics. Phone counters help with planning; the provider’s balance is the reference for your purchased allowance.
Calculate a budget for 7, 14 or 30 days
Daily mobile usage × travel days × 1.3 = a planning estimate. The 30% buffer is our suggested allowance for unexpected use, not a measured average or a guarantee. Increase it if you expect more video, work calls or tethering. The examples below assume that the daily figure already includes everything you plan to do.
| Example daily use | 7-day trip | 14-day trip | 30-day trip |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25 GB/day | 2.28 GB → compare 3 GB | 4.55 GB → compare 5 GB | 9.75 GB → compare 10 GB |
| 0.5 GB/day | 4.55 GB → compare 5 GB | 9.1 GB → compare 10 GB | 19.5 GB → compare 20 GB |
| 1 GB/day | 9.1 GB → compare 10 GB | 18.2 GB → compare 20 GB | 39 GB → compare larger allowances or daily plans carefully |
These are worked examples, not claims about what all travellers consume. For example, if you measure 0.25 GB a day and travel for two weeks, the estimate is 0.25 × 14 × 1.3 = 4.55 GB. A 5 GB package is a candidate, provided its validity covers the trip. A 1 GB package can suit a very short or light-use visit, but it does not cover this example.
Total data and validity are separate limits
A fixed 10 GB / 30-day package gives 10 GB for the entire validity period. It does not renew with 10 GB every morning. A 30-day package can cover a shorter holiday, but unused days do not add data. Conversely, a 7-day package does not cover a two-week trip just because it still has data left.
For a daily or “unlimited” plan, check the high-speed allowance, what happens after that allowance is used, any reset schedule and hotspot restrictions. Do not compare a daily high-speed allowance directly with the total data in a fixed package. Check when validity starts and any installation deadline in the instructions for the exact package.
Video and laptop tethering can change the calculation
Do not assume that all video apps use the same amount. For example, Netflix’s official data guide says its mobile app’s Maximum Data setting can use 1 GB per 20 minutes or more. Its data-saving options behave differently. That makes video quality an important part of your own estimate, rather than a fixed “GB per holiday” rule.
- Download entertainment over Wi-Fi before departure and review each app’s mobile-data settings.
- Schedule cloud photo backups, app updates and large file downloads for Wi-Fi.
- If you share internet with a laptop, include the laptop’s updates, meetings and uploads in your budget. Confirm that the selected package supports hotspot use.
- Save maps ahead of time where offline downloads are supported. Google Maps explains its offline-map options and limitations. Offline availability varies by destination and feature.

Choose how to buy and keep track of the balance
On the website, select a package and pay with cryptocurrency through NOWPayments; the currencies and final amount are shown at checkout. The Telegram Mini App also offers USDT and Telegram Stars, with ruble payments via SBP available to Russian users. Telegram can be used to check usage and top up supported packages. Confirm top-up availability before relying on it for a longer trip.
Before paying, confirm eSIM support and carrier-unlock status for your particular phone, check the package networks and read its activation rule. For installation, follow the instructions delivered with your purchase. Read our eSIM installation guide for a general walkthrough; menus and supported models vary.
Common questions about travel data
Is 5 GB enough for a week?
It depends on your usage. In our example, 0.5 GB per day for seven days plus a 30% planning buffer totals 4.55 GB. A 5 GB package would cover that estimate, but more streaming or tethering could exceed it.
Is 10 GB enough for two weeks?
At an assumed 0.5 GB per day, two weeks plus the example buffer comes to 9.1 GB. That is a calculation, not a promise. Measure your own usage and check that the package remains valid for all 14 days.
Should I buy an unlimited eSIM instead?
Compare the actual high-speed allowance and reduced-speed rules, any daily reset, and hotspot conditions with your needs. The word “unlimited” alone does not tell you whether a package suits video calls or a laptop.
Can I add more data later?
Some packages support top-ups. Check support for the exact package before purchase, and review the added data and validity before paying. Do not assume every eSIM can be topped up.
